Vision of the Graduate
The East Haven Public Schools Vision of the Graduate is a PreK-12 initiative that focuses on developing transferable skills essential for students to succeed as students, employees, and citizens. This vision aims to embed essential life skills into the expectations of East Haven Public Schools, going beyond just content and academics. The goal is to foster collaboration and alignment across all grade levels and schools, ensuring everyone is working together to promote growth in these essential areas. It serves as a "North Star" for the school system, defining attributes that will help students to meet their personal aspirations and guiding improvement and transformation efforts.
East Haven Public Schools is committed to fostering the critical attributes that prepare our graduates for an unpredictable future. The attributes we aim to cultivate, starting in preschool and continuing through graduation, include being a:
- Responsible Citizen: Demonstrating awareness and consideration for self, others, and the community; learning independently and collaboratively; and contributing to community improvement.
- Goal-Directed and Resilient Individual: Employing a growth mindset; reflecting on feedback; adapting and achieving goals, demonstrating self-direction and perseverance, and analyzing how decisions impact self and others.
- Informed Thinker: Analyzing and applying knowledge from diverse perspectives and sources; assessing information for accuracy, bias, and usefulness, and developing questions and conclusions from information.
- Resourceful Problem Solver: Analyzing information, asking questions, and applying knowledge to identify problems and solutions; applying strategies to reach viable solutions; and reflecting on the problem-solving process.
- Powerful and Effective Communicator: Locating and using information from various sources to communicate understanding; choosing appropriate communication strategies based on audience and purpose; presenting content in an organized and coherent manner; and using evidence and reasoning accurately and purposefully.
